TRM | Good As Gold & SynBioVit Review

February 14, 2018

There’s a lot of feed supplements on the market and I find it can be difficult to determine what is best and safe to use. However, one company that has stood out to me is Ireland based, TRM.  They have been in the market place for 28 years and have an extensive product range that’s used by some of the best riders in the world, such as; Marcus Ehning, Sam Griffiths, Oliver Townend and Reed Kessler.

TRM’s mission – “to maximise horses athletic performance by targeting their specific nutritional and hygienic needs.”

I spoke with the TRM team, who are very helpful and friendly (as well as highly knowledgeable), as there were a couple of products I was interested in purchasing.  I was looking for a natural calmer and also an all-round supplement to improve and maintain hind gut health.  After discussions with them I decided to trial  Good As Gold and SynBioVit.

Here’s how I got on…

TRM Good As Gold Paste Review

TRM Good As Gold Paste

The issue

I have two young horses, both of which can get anxious during travelling. I was looking for a product to take the edge off the horses and to help keep them calm and relaxed when travelling. I wanted a natural calmer that would also help during other times of stress, such as; clipping, shoeing and teeth rasping.

The results

I found Good As Gold paste really easy to use.  I had a pack of 3 x 35g syringes which made the product really easy to administer.  A bonus was that the horses liked it as well.  I initially tried the product when taking my 4yo to a show as she can get quite anxious about the prospect of loading and travelling. She responded very well to the paste and was noticeably more relaxed. I fed half a syringe in the evening feed the night before the show and the remaining half in the morning feed before the show.  What I liked about the product is that while she was more relaxed at the show, it didn’t affect her concentration levels at all.  This is definitely a product I will always keep stocked up on moving forward.

TRM SynBioVit

The issue

My horses graze on historic grassland and I have been worried for some time that they are not getting all the nutrients they need. I’ve also been conscious that my 6yo has been showing some signs of poor hind gut health (general grumpiness and a loose stool).

The results

I’ve been feeding this product to both of my horses to maintain hind gut health. The product contains live yeast Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, Prebiotics and B Vitamins. Without getting too technical, SynBioVit enhances the activity of fibre-digesting bacteria in the hindgut, and aids more efficient use of the vitamins and minerals in the diet. I’ve been feeding 10g per day for general maintenance.  However, for horses experiencing periods of stress (traveling, competing, illness) TRM recommend that 20g is fed per day. I’ve seen a good response from using this product, especially in my 6yo. I plan to use it as part of my general feeding regime moving forward.

Overall I’m really impressed by the products and I can easily understand why TRM are so well respected within the industry.
