A Trip To The Isles of Scilly – Part 1

October 19, 2015

I’ve mixed emotions writing this. I’ve just got back from the most amazing mini-break to the Isles of Scilly with my partner, Morveth Ward, and I’m experiencing a serious case of the ‘holiday blues’. I’ve also come back consumed by wanderlust.

I’ve split the trip up into a series of blog posts and here’s the first;  ‘getting there’.

Isles of Scilly TravelOur trip was wonderful from start to finish. Instead of the usual 3 to 5 hour trip to get to an international airport, it was a luxury to drive the 10 miles from our house near St Ives, to Lands-End airport, run by Isles of Scilly Travel.  I’ve never been to the airport, but I was really impressed by it, and the quality of service we received.

Isles Of Scilly TravelGreeted by friendly staff, we walked into a light, cozy building, equipped with wood burner, café, and an open planned departure lounge which gives a clear view of the planes taking off and landing. As I’m sure you can imagine, slightly different from many of the airports you may have experienced.

Isles of Scilly TravelThe process was seamless at the airport and after the short 15-minute flight, and a wonderful view of Cornwall on board the Skybus, we had reached Paradise, a.k.a Isles Of Scilly.

Isles of Scilly TravelThere are three airports which fly to the Isles of Scilly; Lands End, Newquay and Exeter.  If you don’t fancy flying, you can also catch the Scillonian ferry from Penzance, Cornwall.

Whether you fancy a day trip, or a longer break, visit www.islesofscilly-travel.co.uk to find out how you can make your way to the Scilly’s.
