Equestrian Nikki Davies Riders Showing

Nikki Davies Blog | A great start to the season

May 17, 2016

Hello all,

Finally the showing season has finally arrived …whoop … and I’m so happy to be back out doing what I love. The winter felt like it was never going to end!

So a quick update on what Sisco and I have been up to March we went off to the winter dressage finals at wales and we had a fantastic time, the people were so lovely and supportive. Sisco was a bit on edge in the big arena with the scary banners as he never seen anything like that before, he soon settled and started to take it all in his stride like the big man does best. I was very pleased with our placing all things considered, it was a massive learning curb for both Sisco and I, and I intend to try and qualify again for next year.

First show of the season

Lots of shows have been getting cancelled due to poor ground and the terrible weather we have been having, I actually though I might end up doing my first county show as my first show of the season if it continued! The sun did finally come out for Newquay ridding club show which was held at Royal Cornwall show ground. I took Sisco along and we did the open working hunter which was 90cm, a little too small for him now but the idea was to visit Royal Cornwall show ground where last year in the working show horse he seemed to implode on me in the big atmosphere, it’s all about miles on the clock and trying to prepare as much as possible for the counties.

Sisco went clear in the jumping phase and after conformation and ridden section, I was pulled out first, so it was a win. We then went into the championships and we took reserve champions which I was very pleased with for his first show of the season. Sisco looked stunning thanks to my sponsor Kings Equestrian who came along to be my top groom and support me at this show.

We then headed off to Gwinear show to get another workers course under our belts before Devon County. The course was built brilliant with a lovely forward pace over the first 4 jumps and then asked a really difficult question with a double of skinny’s and then on a dog leg to an oxer and then on to finish over the last jump which was a triple bar. Sisco was amazing over the coursed and listed to everything I asked of him, he rode forwards to the oxers and I really sat him up for the double of skinnies. We had a lovely clear round and then went on to win the class, I was super chuffed and couldn’t of asked for a better round.

Products

I couldn’t live with supreme sparkle in my life, its brilliant for making any horse shine and the amazing glistening oil for quarter markings. These are the two products I couldn’t live without in the show ring, oh and not forgetting the supreme black hoof oil.

First county show

I’m all entered for Devon County as the first county show jumping the big track. This is one of my favourite shows as the workers ring is lovely, there is loads of room and it is nice and flat. The course always flows nice there and it always feels really relaxed. I’m sure I will be nervous but I’m going to give it my best shoot.

Training

I’ve been training hard with the jumping and its really improving, Sisco is trusting me so much more now as my aids are much clearer in what I want, he feels like he could jump from anywhere….and sometimes we do!

So until next time.

Nikki
