Elle McCoan’s Show Jumping Blog| First County Show For Ed…

June 16, 2016

With the summer season well underway, the horses have had some great results so far!

I took them both to the 5 day show at Bicton Arena which I couldn’t have asked for better weather for. There isn’t a better show venue – especially when the sun is shining. Figi was super consistent throughout the whole show having a double clear and joint 1st in the 4yo class which means she has qualified for the final in September, and also had a 7th and 14th out of 100+ in two British Novices classes which I was chuffed with.

Ed had a great show and had two double clears at Foxhunter and just outside the placings which I was pleased with as he had only just stepped up to this height. On the Sunday Ed and I jumped the Newcomers Second Round which was 1m25 in the first round, so with him just starting jumping the Foxhunter/1.20 classes this was a big ask for him, but he jumped round like he had done it a hundred times before and jumped so well with just having two unlucky poles. Not even the open water tray phased him!

This set us up nicely for the Grade C at Royal Cornwall Show – Ed’s first county show (of many hopefully) starting at 1m25. I went to Royal Cornwall very open minded as again, this was a big ask but I knew he was capable. Little did I know that my super little horse would jump a double clear and ended up a very respectable 3rd place! I was 8th to go in the draw and was the first to jump clear in the first round which was really exciting – and being first to jump off jumping clear again with a good time. I could not be happier with my little superstar, he jumped such a great round and made it feel easy. He is definitely a keeper! Royal Cornwall was such a good day and I definitely was feeling the love and support from my amazing team of family, friends and sponsors.

Celebrating with my parents

April/May and June have been very busy already having visits from the brilliant Dr Marvin Firth at County Equine and Melia Clifford at Melia Clifford Equine Dental, always making sure my horses are feeling top condition!

My plans for the rest of June are Bicton from 23rd to 26th and Wales for the Bronze & Silver League Qualifiers from 29th-3rd so hopefully we will come away with some great results. Then the horses can have a little break whilst I go on holiday myself.

Till next time!
