‘2015 is proving to be the best yet’ – Meet Show Jumper Elle McCoan

August 24, 2015

The 2015 show jumping season has certainly been the best one yet. I am a 20 year old show jumper based in Cornwall – with a promising string of horses.

In November last year, I bought a lovely 5yo called Firestone W, stable name Zippy.  He is a Dutch bred gelding by Emilion out of a Radetty mare… and this is certainly one to watch for the future!

He has had an extremely successful year so far gaining all his double clears in British Novice and Discoverys, and even getting his first few Newcomers double clears.

This year has definitely been topped so far by taking my 8yo Dutch gelding, Cavallo III, to an international show in Fontainebleau, France. This was an absolute dream for me, especially as it was with my horse of a lifetime. He had a few placing whilst we were there which really made the whole trip extra special – and now he is off to his new home where he will hopefully continue his success!

Cava travelled great, considering it was his first time on the ferry and was on the lorry for a total of 15 hours (obviously with breaks), including a 4 hour drive through France to the venue. The showground was breathtaking – beautiful arenas, a huge grandstand, and extremely tempting stalls and of course (most importantly) bars! The weather couldn’t have been better either.

I also took a lovely horse, Ultimate, to Fontainebleau with me. Ultimate is owned by Paul George, of Paul George sporthorses.  We jumped the derby and was placed, and even managed to bag a lovely Dyon rug.

In September, I will be heading to Vilamoura international show in Portugal for the Champions Tour for 6 weeks. This really is an opportunity of a life time for me that I am lucky enough to be able to do. Zippy will be coming with me to jump the 5yo classes and will be joined by a few other horses – watch this space!

I also treated myself to a new hat just before Fontainebleau, the Charles Owen Ayr8 leather look. It is such a lovely hat, fits really well and is super breathable, especially in the French heat.

So now for a very busy few weeks preparing for Vilamoura and horse shopping in Holland – wish me luck.

Till next time!
