Equestrian Poppy Burford Riders Show Jumping

Poppy Burford’s Junior Show Jumping Blog|Preparing for Blue Chip

October 24, 2016

Hi! Since I last wrote it has been going well. Bicton was good with placings on both ponies.

Mum and I travelled up to Somerset to Chard Equestrian for their championship show on the first weekend in October. Unfortunately Secret had a bit of a chill, however Mary jumped well. She is so honest and helped me out a lot; we did well, just annoying poles. With only three people, Cornwall came 4th in the teams. It was such a nice show because we had lovely stables, amazing prizes for the team competition and the new spring ride arena there is so nice.

The first Blue chip qualifier I am doing is in 5 weeks and I don’t feel ready at all! I’m still getting the hang of how to ride Mary and not even jumped my first fox yet. I’m going to try and improve my fitness, her fitness, her muscles and flatwork in the next few weeks. Most of my preparation so far has been on the flat, having weekly flatwork lessons with Sue Anderson. We’ve been working on lengthening and shortening the canter, along with softening my hands. I am getting her to use her back and to be more elastic in it (we are also getting her back done next week). We are going to move onto more pole work and improving my balance.Poppy Burford & Speculate union show jumpingBlue chip is my favourite show so fingers crossed that we are ready and do well✌?xx
